The Archaeopteryx is one of the most famous fossils in the world. This year it was chosen as Fossil of the Year by the Paläontologische Gesellschaft. The presentation took place on 09.01.2020 using the Eichstätt specimen on the occasion of the Wiedereröffnung of the Jura Museum Eichstätt. The primeval bird originates from the approximately 150 million year old plate limestones of Bavaria and proves the phylogenetic origin of the birds. An article about our fossil of the year has just been published in the journal Archaeopteryx, which is published once a year by the Freunde des Jura-Museums e.V.
